was not possible, so a thorough examination of the pelvis was performed by the rectal route. At examination, no uterus or ovaries was felt and the vagina appeared to be replaced by a mass of fibrous tissue. She was admitted into the private wing of tKe Hospital for Women, Soho Square, London, for a thorough examination under a general anaesthetic. The hymen was normal, but no vagina could be found and there was no evidence of either uterus or ovaries
